900 years of history
The origins of the Château de la Flocellière in Sèvremont date back to the 11th century. At that time, it was an important fortress, as evidenced by its tall keep and the ruins of its walls. At the beginning of the 17th century, the Château was transformed into a magnificent and elegant stately home. Overlooking the Vendée countryside, it sits amidst a landscape of hills, woods, and ponds, in a gently verdant and bucolic setting.
Our castle located in Sèvremont is one of the few castles in France that has been continuously inhabited for almost 1,000 years.
Poets and great men have resided in this marvelous place, whose name means 'Flower of the sky'. You will hear stories of Bertrand Duguesclin's visit, the poems of Philipine, chatelaine of La Flocellière in the 16th century, and the famous love story between the beautiful Elizabeth Hamilton and the Marquis Jacques de Maillé during the reign of Louis XIII.
A story of family
Passionate about history, culture and heritage, my father took my mother, my brother and me on a crazy Vendée adventure in 1978 with the idea of reviving this old medieval fortress that had been asleep for many years waiting for its prince charming!
"I'll never set foot in there," my mother said, seeing the devastated state of the entire property. I was 10 years old, and my shock was just as great.
And yet, faced with my father's contagious enthusiasm, we each worked alongside him to bring about today the rebirth of this historic landmark of the Vendée bocage.
My father's initial idea was to rediscover a family estate lost over time by his Bordeaux ancestors. At the time, we divided our time between Paris and the Vendée region. The work was extensive, and although each year another room was brought back to life, it was financially difficult to accelerate or expand the immense and ambitious renovation already undertaken!
It was in 1995 that I first suggested to my parents the idea of moving into the château and developing a bed and breakfast. I was 24 years old and had just graduated with a degree in art history. This new challenge delighted my mother, who was finishing a wonderful career in international public relations with the L'Oréal group. Communication being her forte, numerous articles were published, and our clientele grew year after year. Every room in the château became a treasure trove.
I took over the entire estate after the death of my parents and I continue this wonderful family adventure with the same passion and love for heritage!

Our independent accommodations in Sèvremont in Vendée
Comprising numerous buildings, the estate offers a variety of independent accommodations, each sleeping 2 to 15 people, ideal for stays of one night or more. Each outbuilding, annex, or wing of the castle, furnished for our guests, will be an invitation to step back in time.
In 1978, my parents embarked on the restoration of this old medieval fortress, which was then in ruins. Despite the scale of the work, the whole family gradually participated in the castle's rebirth.
In 1995, fresh out of art history school, I moved here to develop the bed and breakfast with my mother, a former international public relations manager at L'Oréal. Thanks to this family venture and our passion for heritage, the estate gradually regained its former glory.
Today, after the death of my parents, I continue with the same passion this beautiful story of transmission and restoration.
